Crash Crash Crash! Live in Cinemascope!

So i've finally gotten it online! Sorry for the glitchy beginning (i had edited it out, but somehow uploaded this one...) but i can't wait any longer - i have to SHARE!

You can just post about what you saw, what it made you think or feel, or you can check out the questions we posted if you want to respond to something more specific. Remember, there's no wrong way to see it, no wrong thing to take from it. Feedback on a new work is always immensely helpful, especially while it's still in process. It also just feels good to know that someone's out there on the other side of the 4th wall - sometimes a piece spends so long in the studio or in your head that it's hard to take it out of that context and think about the people who will be seeing it. We'll be showing a newer version of this (with an added three minutes from the section that leads into it at the beginning) when we perform with CrossCurrents Dance Company at the Dance Place in DC at the end of May, so all you DCers, put it on your calendars and tell all your friends! It's actually really nice to look forward to performing this again - it's become quite a baby of mine.

Here's some new footage from the "sexytime" crash (crash #7 of 13) from 13 variations on a car crash. This was the first day of cristina and cory working on it together (they'd both learned it separately with other partners) so we still have a lot of little details to iron out. It's getting there!

Slow Lift Evolving

Here's some rehearsal footage from the week before last, it's Caity and Cristina's "Slow Lift Evolving". We've been working on it on and off for over a month. Originally it was going to be for Carlos and Caity, but i've become quite attached to it in this pairing.

It was originally constructed to be a slow dance/slow lift sequence - it's something i've been trying to catch ever since i made one for Levon and Ariel in a comp class in college, and lacked the foresight to get it on film. Lost forever, how sad. This isn't the same thing at all, but some of the lovely parts are still there and still my favorites, specifically when the climbing gets effortful.

Lillie and Cory have also learned the sequence, but not to do with each other. The original idea was to have it be Carlos and Caity, which quickly morphed into the idea of having it be Carlos/Caity, Lillie/Julia, and Cristina/Cory. The dynamic would change a lot were it male and female, yes?

Still deciding how it will be...i'll let you know when i get it figured out...

Long awaited (Part 2!)...WebVid #5b! (Rehearsal 10/4 @ DNA)

Here's part two of our work on the 4th - we were re-working a phrase for the "Muerte Chiquita" section, as well as figuring out the mechanics of one of the jump/lifts that comes mid-phrase. I'm working on the video for this past saturday's rehearsal today, so you'll soon see how the phrase expands...

Sorry this has taken me a while to post!

Here's our work on the "Muerte Chiquita" section of the dance.  This video shows our improv and then excerpts of the following discussion we had.  For the piece, this section will be performed by Julia, Cristina, and Larissa, but for the sake of dividing up groups for separate rehearsals i've been building it with JPT and Xtina, and then they teach it to Larissa at a rehearsal when everyone's present.
